Inter University Centre for Studies in Science of Music (IUCSSM) conceived as a platform for the convergence of experts from various Universities/R&D Laboratories with a mission to promote contacts, exchanges, collaborations and sharing of resources through research and study programmes, courses, projects and conferences across a wide range of scientific themes of intellectual concerns, is an alternative mode to many a limitation of the discipline based department about bringing quality and excellence in the production, transmission and extension of deeper knowledge. Experts from various Universities within the state, outside and worldwide can cooperate in organizing teaching, research and other activities of the IUCSSM, which represents the distinct institutional system so structured as to be stimulating interdisciplinary research in Science of Music.

To encourage new collaborative research teams to undertake high quality multi-disciplinary research, incorporating current technological and scientific advances in areas such as neuroanatomy, brain imaging and the biomedical effect of music.
To ensure researchers in the centre have access to the best of innovative technologies by provision of extensive modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art recording studio, sound booth and relevant software packages, to enable the above.
